HUMANIMAL. Mythos und Realität

2014

Catalogue accompanying the exhibition HUMANIMAL. Mythos und Realität, 2014

Hybrid beings transgress the seemingly fixed boundary between humans and animals. Across cultures and historical periods, these boundary-crossers appear time and again, combining the intellectual capacities and physical strengths of both realms. Whether magical deities or heroes endowed with superhuman powers, hybrid beings have all too often tended toward the superhuman. But what happens when such beings no longer remain products of human imagination and instead become reality through medical advances?
